Demonstration against Trump outside New York court ahead of possible indictment Around 50 people gathered on Saturday morning outside a New York court where President Donald Trump is due to appear later in the day for a hearing related to the investigation into his alleged ties with Russia. The demonstrators held signs reading “USA, not Trump” and “No to Trump’s coup d’état”. Some of them also burned American and Russian flags. The hearing is seen as a possible precursor to Trump being indicted by the US Special Counsel for allegedly obstruction of justice.
Protesters demand justice for Trump-related crimes
It was a scene that has played out time and again in the United States over the past four years.
Demonstrators, many of them waving American flags, gathered outside a federal courthouse in New York on Monday to demand justice for what they see as crimes committed by President Donald Trump and his administration.
The protesters were reacting to reports that Trump is facing a possible indictment in the Southern District of New York on costs of obstruction of justice and marketing campaign finance violations.
“We are here to demand that Trump be held accountable for his crimes,” said one protester, who gave her name as Laura.
“This is not a partisan issue,” said another, Alex. “This is about the rule of law and the Constitution. Trump has trampled on both of those things.”
The demonstrations came as Trump’s lawyers were in court arguing that the president should not have to comply with a subpoena for his tax returns.
The protesters said they were prepared to stay outside the courthouse for as long as it takes to get justice.
“We are not going anywhere,” said Laura. “We will be here every day until Trump is indicted and convicted.”
Trump faces potential indictment in the New York
The potential indictment of Donald Trump has been a hot topic of discussion ever since the release of the Mueller report. And with good reason – if Trump is indicted, it would be the first time in history that a sitting president has been charged with a crime.
The case against Trump centers on hush money payments made to two women during the 2016 campaign – payments that were allegedly made in order to keep them quiet about affairs they had with Trump. Trump has denied any wrongdoing, but prosecutors in New York are said to be looking into the matter.
If Trump is indicted, it would be up to the Senate to decide whether or not to remove him from office. And while it’s unlikely that Trump would be convicted in the Senate (given that Republicans control the chamber), the mere fact that he would face indictment would be a major black mark on his presidency.
Of course, all of this is just speculation at this point. We won’t know for sure if Trump will be indicted until prosecutors in New York make their decision. But with the possibility of indictment hanging over his head, Trump’s days in office could be numbered.
New York court to hear case against Trump
A group of demonstrators gathered outside a New York court on Thursday, calling for President Donald Trump to be indicted for his alleged role in the Capitol riot.
The protest came as a grand jury in Washington, D.C. is set to hear evidence in the case against Trump. The president is facing multiple charges, including incitement of insurrection, in connection with the January 6th riot.
Trump has denied any wrongdoing, and has claimed that the riot was a “purely peaceful” event.
If Trump is indicted, he would become the first president in U.S. history to be criminally charged while in office.
The demonstrators in New York City were calling for Trump to be held accountable for his alleged role in the riot.
“We’re here to demand that Trump be indicted for his crimes,” said protester Sarah Sloan.
“He needs to be held accountable for what he did. He incited a violent insurrection against the United States government.”
Another protester, Emily Johnson, said she believed Trump should be impeached and removed from office.
“I think he’s a danger to our democracy and our country,” Johnson said.
“He needs to be removed from office, and I think the best way to do that is through impeachment.”
The grand jury in Washington is expected to hear evidence in the case against Trump for the first time on Thursday. It is not clear when or if the grand jury will return an indictment.
